First things first, I'm not responsible if you end up with a bricked phone or any other mess. (Even I used to get scared by these msgs, its all about deciding whether you want it or not)
Rooting/Jailbreaking your device gives you access to the core files of your Android OS so that you can mess around with your phone better. Many apps require your phone be rooted, hence this article to help you achieve that.
Rooting your LG Optimus One P500 is a walk in the park.
Follow these steps and you're good to go :
- Download z4root.1.3.0.apk
- Connect your phone to your PC via USB, turn on USB Storage and paste this file in the Downloads folder on the Removable Drive of your phone (for uber n00bs, advanced users may feel free to shove it anywhere)
- Now after the file has been copied, Turn off USB Storage from your phone, wait for SD card to be ready and then unplug the USB Cable from the phone.
- Press the central launcher button and scroll to OI File Manager (or any other file manager you have) and open the downloads folder.
- Touch the z4root.1.3.0.apk file and install it.
- After installing, goto the app drawer and click on the z4root icon
- Select Permanent root
- It'll ask you to enable USB debugging, enable it.
- Confirm your action by touching OK
- The screen will stop and will go white for sometime (around 30 seconds) and then reboot
- Once rebooted, touch the central app launcher button and scroll down to the downloaded apps and click on z4root icon.
- If it shows the option to Re-root or Un-root, congratulations! You can have a cookie from my side. Don't forget to comment .
- If it doesn't, try googling and getting a fix (Post comments here and I'll update you with it ASAP)
Hope you found this article helpful in rooting your Optimus One P500 :)
Happy tweaking!

I have downloaded the Z4root. which option should i choose? Temporary root or permanent root?
ReplyDeletethanks
Do a permanent root. You can unroot it from that anytime you want.
ReplyDeleteThank!!!!!!, I am Chile, here the Market of android is very bad, I need this aplication, now have skype :p
ReplyDeletebye
Does the rooting restriction apply to Software Version V10c-DEC-08-2010.
ReplyDeleteIs any other rooting utility that i can use. Need to run Titanium backup.
Thanks
The V10C version released for India does have the restriction AFAIK, but since I've not tried it I can't say surely. You should first try to root it and then report if it works or not.
ReplyDeleteIf you want you can try other apps like Oneclickroot and all.
I have a Optimus one V10e-Nov-30-2010 software version... can anyone help me how to root this?? coz i wanna try the optimus v2 ROM :D
ReplyDeleteFirst you'll have to rollback your upgrade to come down to the V10B version and then you can root it using the above method. Prime v2 won't be a problem then ;)
ReplyDeleteTried Oneclickroot and z4root, none work on my android. Software Version V10c-DEC-08-2010
ReplyDeleteSee my article on flashing original firmware. Use that to switch to V10B version and then root it.
ReplyDeleteMy firmware ver: v10b-Oct-02-2010
ReplyDeleteWhile executing Z4root it shows "parse error" and doesnt even start.
I havent even upgraded to Android 2.3 yet.Currently running Android 2.2
You should reboot your phone and then download z4root from the market again. That'll do the trick.
ReplyDeleteAnd for your information, Android 2.3 is not yet out for the Optimus One P500! :)
@Godlike: Thanks for the quick response.
ReplyDeleteI tried what you said. But couldn't find z4 root in the android market.I re-downloaded from your provided link still no luck.
That file I have uploaded might have become corrupt. I'll re-upload it right now and you can download again.
ReplyDeleteUploaded it again on mediafire, try this one now.
ReplyDeleteDude..Thanks a lot...I had been searching everywhere in xda and google and lot other blogs...finally working..
ReplyDeleteThanks again.just got it rooted.I am much happier android now :)
My pleasure! You could subscribe the blog to keep up with the updates :)
ReplyDeleteThanks A lot Godlike!...I just rooted my Lg !!
ReplyDeleteBye Bye crapware! :P
Pleasure! :)
ReplyDeleteAny plans on trying Custom ROMs?
Not 4 now...
ReplyDeleteSould i backup the crapware and then delete the apk in the system/apps folder with root explorer? Is there any other way ..?
Like Twitter f.e .
I could get it back and install it from the market just in case i'll un-root back for some reason.
worked like a charm... thanks for this mate... any suggestions asto what apps should i install to utilize the full power of root user???
ReplyDeletei rooted to use QtADB...
hey man, do you know if there is any way to flash custom roms with odin on p500, u seem like you half a clue lol
ReplyDeleteworked like a charm.. it asked if i sud grant the app su privileges.. i did for now, hope its fine
ReplyDeletealso do put up a page telling what rooting is and what unrooting is and how to unroot also. It would be a good info for those who are trying it out like me.
ReplyDelete@darren - I guess there is no way for that. Its basically used with Samsung phones mostly.
ReplyDelete@Ajo - Okay sure. It'll be up in sometime.
After i rollback my software to V10B can i root my phone and use a custom rom than upgrade the software back to V10E or will i be stuck at V10B?
ReplyDeleteYou'll be upgraded automatically to the version on which your Custom ROM is based.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI will also be able to use the apps which root right? After the custom rom upgrade itself? After the auto patch can i do a manual patch to V10E?
ReplyDeleteThanks, my firmware V10c-DEC-08-2010 and it did, Donald maybe you have to tried again
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeletez4mod don't seems to be working for me
ReplyDeleteomg!i just upgrade to v10e..how to downgrade back??can u teach me?and..what will happen if i root my lg optimus one?
ReplyDeleteHey StAr! You can downgrade your firmware to the V10B update using my article on flashing original firmware on the Optimus One P500. Goto the home page and its the third article.
ReplyDeleteIf you root your phone, you'll be able to use it to its full potential. You can always unroot if you wish :)
Hey Johnny
ReplyDeleteWhat rooting utility did you use to root your V10c-DEC-08-2010 firmware. post me a link to the utility.
Its perfect, working for me, but small trouble was, first time it didnt work, i have tried launching the app continuously and clicked on "permanent root" so for 3 rd time it worked now.
ReplyDeleteAfter rooting, how do i remove the installed crapware ? Titanium backup?
ReplyDeleteHey, I need some help. The LG repositories for original firmware isn't working anymore. Can you upload the required file for us?
ReplyDeleteI have tried your steps but the phone will drop back to the apps screen and doesn't reboot. It will come up and said the process com.z4mod.z4root has stopped unexpectedly if I try to run the app again. Please help.
ReplyDeleteI just followed these instructions , worked perfect! :) thanks! my Android version v10b oct-02-10.
ReplyDelete@jhonny - can u confirm tat u ve rooted V10c-DEC-08-2010.
ReplyDeletehallo .... i succeed to root my lg (v10c-oct-19-2010)..... many many thanks
ReplyDeleteThanks Buddy. It was smooth. Can you provide info on tweaking the phone to maximize its potential?
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeletenow that I successfully rooted my phone, how do i uninstall those stupid apps that are on the original config of the phone?
Download Root Uninstall from the market and remove those apps :)
ReplyDeleteI can't root my phone with z4root. I tried the link you have posted (http://www.mediafire.com/?7smlm6qwm64mroi) and it didn't work on my LG Optimus One, with firmware V10c :( HELLLLLLLLLLLLPPP!!!!!!!!!

ReplyDelete@Blix and chethan
ReplyDeleteLooks like you've updated your versions. You'll need to go back to original firmware. My old Optimus came with V10a and after I updated it to V10c it no longer let me root it.
I guess follow the instructions on this blog on how to revert to original firmware and try again.
Hey.. I rooted the phone and by mistake uninstalled the Lg home app in my optimus one. Now when i did a factory reset... My phone is frozen kindly help me out. Its a big mess
ReplyDeleteWell you've uninstalled a launching app and that is why all this is happening. Goto the article on this blog about Flashing Original Firmware and flash the v10b firmware on your phone to restore it.

ReplyDeleteHi.
ReplyDeleteThanks for guiding me to rooting my LG Optimus One P500. I did as given in your instructions. Now i am clueless, kindly guide me for the following:
1. How do i backup my entire system.
2. How do i move system apps to sd card.
3. How do i stop some apps from auto starting.
Most importantly my available phone memory is showing as 29 MB out of 199 MB, how do i free the same...
Thanks in advance
Hi, have a LG Optimus 1.
ReplyDeleteJust did the stated steps. Phone rooted perfectly
TY for the info.
Just wondering why is my free phone memory now lower than before?(from 170MB to 145MB)This happened post the Root process.
Super one click worked for my device, you can download it too from http://www.shortfuse.org/
ReplyDeleteMore Downloads
http://www.cellopera.com
why it exits after i press the "Permanent Root" . . i already downgrade the firmware? . . .please help
ReplyDeleteoooooh.... Thanks mate. Worked perfectly.
ReplyDeleteAwesome dude..thanks a lot....i didnt know it was this easy to root. Yes, was scared a bit of bricking all that...but thats done....
ReplyDeleteBye bye to the damn annoying "Bollywoodji" and "Infant Vaccine tracker" apps.
One tip...after rooting people, install Titanium backup...backup all the preloaded apps..and uninstall them. Only reason is u can restore them back and unroot it, so tht if at all u send it for repair when under warranty, those LG guys wouldnt have a chance to void warranty...Wallah...thanks again dude...
Done it..... Kuddos to you dude....
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteMy LGP500 running 2.2.1 version V10b-DEC-13-2010 will not allow Z4root to run. It starts and it goes through a coupe of processes but fails each and every time! I have turned off phone, removed battery, restarted and it still does the same thing.
I guess this means i have to wait for someone to sort this out???
Thanks for any help!
