Rooting LG Optimus One P500



First things first, I'm not responsible if you end up with a bricked phone or any other mess. (Even I used to get scared by these msgs, its all about deciding whether you want it or not)

Note: z4root cannot root your device if you have upgraded your Firmware to the V10E update.

Rooting/Jailbreaking your device gives you access to the core files of your Android OS so that you can mess around with your phone better. Many apps require your phone be rooted, hence this article to help you achieve that.










 Rooting your LG Optimus One P500 is a walk in the park.



Follow these steps and you're good to go :
  1. Download z4root.1.3.0.apk
  2. Connect your phone to your PC via USB, turn on USB Storage and paste this file in the Downloads folder on the Removable Drive of your phone (for uber n00bs, advanced users may feel free to shove it anywhere)
  3. Now after the file has been copied, Turn off USB Storage from your phone, wait for SD card to be ready and then unplug the USB Cable from the phone.
  4. Press the central launcher button and scroll to OI File Manager (or any other file manager you have) and open the downloads folder.
  5. Touch the z4root.1.3.0.apk file and install it. 
  6. After installing, goto the app drawer and click on the z4root icon
  7. Select Permanent root
  8. It'll ask you to enable USB debugging, enable it.
  9. Confirm your action by touching OK
  10. The screen will stop and will go white for sometime (around 30 seconds) and then reboot
  11. Once rebooted, touch the central app launcher button and scroll down to the downloaded apps and click on z4root icon. 
  12. If it shows the option to Re-root or Un-root, congratulations! You can have a cookie from my side. Don't forget to comment .
  13. If it doesn't, try googling and getting a fix (Post comments here and I'll update you with it ASAP)

  5. The V10C version released for India does have the restriction AFAIK, but since I've not tried it I can't say surely. You should first try to root it and then report if it works or not.

    If you want you can try other apps like Oneclickroot and all.

  7. First you'll have to rollback your upgrade to come down to the V10B version and then you can root it using the above method. Prime v2 won't be a problem then ;)

    While executing Z4root it shows "parse error" and doesnt even start.

    I havent even upgraded to Android 2.3 yet.Currently running Android 2.2

  11. You should reboot your phone and then download z4root from the market again. That'll do the trick.

    And for your information, Android 2.3 is not yet out for the Optimus One P500! :)

    Sould i backup the crapware and then delete the apk in the system/apps folder with root explorer?Is there any other way ..?
    Like Twitter f.e .
    I could get it back and install it from the market just in case i'll un-root back for some reason.

  33. Hey StAr! You can downgrade your firmware to the V10B update using my article on flashing original firmware on the Optimus One P500. Goto the home page and its the third article.

    If you root your phone, you'll be able to use it to its full potential. You can always unroot if you wish :)

    Looks like you've updated your versions. You'll need to go back to original firmware. My old Optimus came with V10a and after I updated it to V10c it no longer let me root it.
    I guess follow the instructions on this blog on how to revert to original firmware and try again.

  50. Well you've uninstalled a launching app and that is why all this is happening. Goto the article on this blog about Flashing Original Firmware and flash the v10b firmware on your phone to restore it.

  61. Awesome dude..thanks a lot....i didnt know it was this easy to root. Yes, was scared a bit of bricking all that...but thats done....
    Bye bye to the damn annoying "Bollywoodji" and "Infant Vaccine tracker" apps.
    One tip...after rooting people, install Titanium backup...backup all the preloaded apps..and uninstall them. Only reason is u can restore them back and unroot it, so tht if at all u send it for repair when under warranty, those LG guys wouldnt have a chance to void warranty...Wallah...thanks again dude...

    My LGP500 running 2.2.1 version V10b-DEC-13-2010 will not allow Z4root to run. It starts and it goes through a coupe of processes but fails each and every time! I have turned off phone, removed battery, restarted and it still does the same thing.
    I guess this means i have to wait for someone to sort this out???

  86. Or if your LG O1 has 2.2.1 or 2.2.2 Froyo you can just root it with Gingerbreak. It is easiest way of rooting LG O1 :D

  103. Prasanth, the app uses an *exploit* to root your phone.. It's normal for an antivirus to detect it as something suspicious. :)

    NB : I upgraded the stock to gingerbread thru official released and the process mentioned in the linked place worked. This tutorial has not much difference with the given one but i am posting it to give you the link for superoneclick. its available from the xda developers but something i dwnloaded from there did not work even after rigorous a nite out..but yeah..this time worked with this mediafire zip..Enjoy rooting :)
